Deputy Shoots Suspect Who Shot AMR and Fire Crews at Multiple Locations

TUCSON, AZ – A chaotic incident took place over three locations Sunday afternoon.

Around 3:45pm, the Tucson Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire in the 2100 block of East Irene Vista. During that call, an AMR crew was a few miles north of that location at Quincie Douglas Park.

Once AMR arrived at the park, a male suspect driving a silver SUV drove up and started shooting into the driver’s side of the ambulance. The 20-year-old male driver was struck in the head, and the 21-year-old female passenger was struck in the arm and chest. The driver is still listed in critical condition and the female is stable.

The female called for assistance and gave a suspect and vehicle description.

The suspect vehicle proceeded to the house fire on East Irene Vista, where TFD and neighbors were attempting to put out the fire. The suspect started shooting at the firefighters and civilians on that scene. The suspect hit a 44-year-old male neighbor in the head, who died at the scene.

A fire captain was struck in the arm and is listed in stable condition. Another neighbor was grazed by a bullet but is said to be in good condition.

Another person perished in the fire, but hasn’t been identified yet.

TFD had said that “two or three” children had been missing during the house fire, but they were later located.

An officer responding to the call of the shootings observed the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Campbell Ave and Irene Vista. The suspect attempted to ram the officer’s vehicle and proceeded to shoot at the officer.

The officer fired back and struck the 35-year-old suspect. The officer was not injured and the suspect was hit, said to be in critical condition.

The officer hasn’t been identified but is said to have been with TPD for eight years.

Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus described the multiple-shooting-location incident as “horrific.”
