After Joe Biden Accuses Facebook of “Killing People,” The Big Tech Platform Pushes Back

Following this week’s outlandish statement from Joe Biden, Facebook is rebutting the White House’s claim that it is “killing people” through its social media platform.

A Facebook spokesperson said in response, “In private exchanges the Surgeon General has praised our work, including our efforts to inform people about COVID-19. They knew what they were doing. The White House is looking for scapegoats for missing their vaccine goals.”

They continued by saying, “The fact is that more than 2 billion people have viewed authoritative information about COVID-19 and vaccines on Facebook, which is more than any place on the internet…more than 3.3 million Americans have also used our vaccine finder tool to find our where and how to get the vaccine. The facts show that Facebook is helping save lives. Period.”

President Biden accused Facebook on Friday of “killing people” by disseminating false information about coronavirus vaccines, adding, “The only epidemic we have is among the unvaccinated, and they’re killing people.”

The rebuttals follow White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s claim last week that the Biden administration has been “flagging” information for removal from Facebook, a statement that has sparked widespread outrage among Americans and concerns about government overreach.

Sticking with their narrative, the Surgeon General’s office issued a new report last week about health misinformation and the Surgeon General himself, Vivek Murthy, said that the issue is a genuine public health threat.

He went on to explain by saying, “Surgeon General advisories are [usually] reserved for urgent public health threats…And while those threats have often been related to what we eat, drink, & smoke, today we live in a world where misinformation poses an imminent & insidious threat to our nation’s health.”

It is unclear if there’s a riff between the Biden administration and big tech platforms like Facebook, or whether this – like so many of their initiatives – is coordinated and well scripted theater so make it seem as though the White House is not in fact helping pull strings with the behemoth social media platform.  Regardless, the outcome is the same and has Americans across the country extremely concerned about our growing government’s power and its influence not only in corporate American, but in our homes.
